The North Wakefield Gateway scheme has been revamped and the official consultation is on until the 6th of August
The main features of the new scheme from the councils official letter, delivered today are.
2 Way traffic flow on Leeds Road,Northgate, Wentworth Street and Bond Street is retained
The southbound turn from Bond Street to Bell Street is [...]

One way system scrapped

“The Deputy Leader of Wakefield Council has pledged that the proposed one-way system for St John’s in the city centre will be scrapped and has instructed officers to find an alternative solution.”
It will be interesting to see what the new plans will be, the press release does say that local representatives will be involved in [...]

Viability of Park and ride

Consultation period begins

The consultation leaflets have started to be delivered
The main difference to the plan is to have two lanes and a bus lane, which will mean road widening and the narrowing of paths.
There is a questionnaire, to be returned before 25th September 2009
There is to be a public display in the Ridings on the 4th/5th September [...]

FOI request for traffic surveys

I have received the traffic survery information I requested under the FOI act.
It seems to me from my initial look that

There appears to be no consideration of the cross streets ( St Johns N and Belgravia)
The traffic volume that will be forced down a single lane (as per the plan)  is more or less doubled

What I find interesting is how the council say this is “not a done deal” (Coun Denise Jeffery, Wakefield Council’s deputy leader and cabinet member for regeneration)
However the council have approved the scheme in a cabinet meeting, how is that not a done deal?
