The problem with the scheme
Do you drive a car into or out of Wakefield?
If so, then you WILL BE AFFECTED by the new ONE WAY SYSTEM in North Wakefield
The plan includes:
- REDUCING BY HALF THE NO. OF CAR LANES on Bradford and Leeds Roads
- Making Bradford Road ONE LANE and ONE WAY OUT OF TOWN
- Making Leeds Road ONE LANE and ONE WAY INTO TOWN
How might this affect you?
…Double the traffic…
The number of cars heading in your direction will DOUBLE by forcing 2 lanes of traffic into a single lane. EG: drivers normally taking Bradford Road into Wakefield WILL HAVE TO USE LEEDS ROAD, along with the usual Leeds Road traffic.
…Forced into rush hour traffic…
If you normally drive out of town in the morning rush hour, and into town in the evening rush hour, you may find yourself IN THE RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC GOING IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION. EG: If you live on Leeds Road and use the A650 away from town in the morning, you will have to head TOWARDS WAKEFIELD FIRST IN THE RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC, and cut across to Bradford Road to head away from town.
…Quiet residential streets become public thoroughfares…
Belgravia Road, St John’s North and Andrew Street, which are currently protected from heavy traffic, will become WELL-USED THOROUGH-FARES for drivers who need to get from Leeds Road to Bradford Road, and vice versa.
